Patna, September 24, 2025: At the Congress Working Committee meeting held on Wednesday at Sadaqat Ashram in Patna, Congress national president Mallikarjun Kharge launched a blistering attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, accusing the BJP-led government of failures on multiple fronts—national, international, economic and democratic.
Opening his address, Kharge paid tribute to the historic venue, recalling its role in the freedom struggle.
Sadaqat Ashram was the focal point of the freedom movement. This historic Congress office, established in 1921, has been the workplace of many great leaders of our party. I pay special tribute to them today. This CWC meeting is extremely crucial as India faces a very challenging and worrying period both internationally and nationally,” he said.
Mallikarjun Kharge alleged democratic failures and erosion of democracy in the Modi government:
Mallikarjun Kharge alleged that India’s international problems stem directly from the Modi government’s diplomatic failure, saying, the very friends whom the prime minister boasts of as my friends are today putting India in numerous trouble. When our voters list is being officially tempered with, it becomes essential to meet here in Bihar—the mother of democracy—to reaffirm our pledge to protect the country’s democracy and constitution.”
He invoked history to underline the stakes, noting, “Exactly 85 years ago, the Constituent Assembly proposal was first introduced at Ramgarh CWC meeting. Mahatma Gandhi, Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru, Sardar Patel, Dr. BR Ambedkar, and other leaders granted citizens the right to one person, one vote. But today, serious questions are being raised about the fairness and transparency of the poll body itself.”

Mallikarjun Kharge accused the BJP of plotting the cancellation of millions of votes across India, calling it a direct attack on the rights of Dalit, tribal, backward castes, minorities and the poor.
Vote theft means the theft of rations, pensions, medicines, scholarship, and examination records,” he warned, lauding the Voter Adhikar Yatra led by Rahul Gandhi for raising awareness in Bihar.
Economic criticism: Jobs, inflation, and inequality:
Turning to the economy, Mallikarjun Kharge criticized the Modi government for failing to deliver on its key promises.
“The promise of 2 crore jobs remains unfulfilled. Youth are left without employment. Demonetization and flawed GST derailed the economy. After eight years, the Prime Minister quietly adopted the very GST reforms that Congress had demanded from day one,” he said.

Mallikarjun Kharge highlighted worsening economic indicators, including that rural consumption is at a 50-year low, inequality is at its peak, and imports from China have doubled in the last five years, despite PM Modi invoking the Mahatma Gandhi Swadeshi Mantra.
He further pointed out that farmers’ income has not doubled as promised and recalled the protests against the three farm laws of 2020-21.
