JP Ganga Path is expected to be inaugurated by CM Nitish Kumar on April 10, set to transform Patna’s traffic system.

Patna April 7, 2025: In a major infrastructural milestone for the city, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar expected to inaugurate the newly extended JP Ganga Path up to Didarganj on April 10, paving the way for smoother traffic flow and significant relief from jams along the city’s congested routes.
With the completion of this phase, the entire 20.5-kilometer stretch of JP Ganga Path from Digha to Didarganj will become operational.
The road extension from Kangan Ghat to Didarganj has been successfully completed, marking a new chapter in Patna’s urban mobility.
Ambulance movement from Didarganj to PMCH and Patna AIIMS will now be jam-free, offering crucial time savings during medical emergencies.
Until now, ambulances were forced to take the Bypass road via Gaighat, often getting stuck near the Zero Mile traffic choke point.
Only small vehicles will be allowed on this new stretch initially. Heavy commercial vehicles remain restricted to maintain the road’s efficiency and ensure a smooth, congestion-free commute.
JP Ganga Path is a dream project of Nitish Kumar:
Originally envisioned to be completed in four years, the foundation stone of the JP Ganga Path project was laid on October 11, 2013. However, the project took 137 months to complete 89 months longer than planned.

Initially estimated to cost Rs. 3,160 crore the eventual cost rose by an additional Rs. 1,000 crore due to construction delays and the inclusion of new development components.
Future plans for JP Ganga Path expansion:
The project is far from over. With this phase nearing completion, the JP Ganga Path will now be extended from Digha to Koilwar, covering 36.65 kilometers. This includes an elevated road from Dogha to Sherpur and a connecting road from Sherpur to Koilwar via Maner Dam.
The estimated cost of his stretch is Rs. 6,689.70 crore.
In another ambitious move, the road will be extended from Didarganj to Athmalgola as a four-lane corridor, after which NH-31 will be widened by 10 meters up to Rajendra Setu (Mokama).

This selection alone will involve an investment of Rs. 1, 121.49 crore.
With this expansion, Patna residents can expect substantial relief from bypass congestion, improved emergency medical response times, and an overall streamlined traffic system.
The project, once criticized for delays, is now being hailed as a potential lifeline for the capital city.
