Roorkee, June 4, 2026: Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee (IIT Roorkee) has announced a major achievement for the Mehta Family School of Data Science and Artificial Intelligence, with the successful placement of its inaugural BTech graduating batch.
According to the institute, every student who participated in the placement process from the first graduating cohort secured employment opportunities across leading global companies in artificial intelligence, technology, finance, analytics, and research-oriented sectors.
The placed students received offers from several prominent multinational organizations, including Amazon, Microsoft, Goldman Sachs, Qualcomm, Salesforce, Samsung Research, Databricks, Barclays, Visa, and Warner Bros. Discovery.
IIT Roorkee stated that these results highlight the program’s emphasis on interdisciplinary education, industry relevance, and innovation-driven learning.
IIT Roorkee and Mehta Family School’s perspective:
Commenting on the milestone, K.K. Pant, the Director of IIT Roorkee, said the program was designed to build artificial intelligence capabilities at the undergraduate level and move beyond conventional engineering pathways.
According to him, the objective has been to create a talent pipeline capable of designing, developing, and deploying AI systems for real-world applications.
The Mehta Family School of Data Science and Artificial Intelligence was established in 2021 through a partnership with the Mehta Family Foundation. It is among the early dedicated undergraduate AI programs within the IIT ecosystem, with a focus on developing future-ready talent for an AI-driven economy.
Rahul Mehta, founder of Mehta Family Foundation, congratulated the inaugural graduating class, describing the achievement as a reflection of the quality of the program developed at IIT Roorkee.
He noted that the placement of every student in leading companies across India and abroad demonstrates the strength of the institute’s academic model and the efforts of its faculty and administration.
Focus on responsible AI and deep technology:
Sanjeev Kumar, Head, Mehta Family School of Data Science and Artificial Intelligence, said the program aims to equip students with a strong foundation in mathematics, computing, machine learning, and responsible artificial intelligence.
He added that students have been trained to bridge theoretical concepts with practical applications while addressing complex real-world challenges.
Beyond final placements, undergraduate students from other batches also secured internships with globally recognized organizations such as Google, Microsoft, Adobe, Goldman Sachs, Salesforce, Mastercard, Samsung, Databricks, and Expedia Group.
Several of these internships reportedly resulted in pre-placement offers.
The institute also indicated that its postgraduate programs in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence recorded strong placement outcomes, reflecting increasing industry recognition of its interdisciplinary and application-oriented approach to AI education.
The achievement marks an important milestone in IIT Roorkee’s efforts to expand its legacy in engineering education into emerging fields such as data science and artificial intelligence, supporting India’s growing deep-technology and innovation ecosystem.
