IAF’s Surya Kiran team will perform an air show in Patna to honour 1857 freedom fighters.

Patna, April 8, 2025: The Indian Air Force’s Surya Kiran Aerobatic Team will perform a breath-taking air show over the JP Ganga Pathway, popularly known as Marine Drive, in Patna on April 22 and 23.
The initiative, organized by the Bihar Government, is a tribute to the martyrs of India’s first freedom revolt of 1857.
On April 22, the Surya Kiran team will conduct a full-dress rehearsal, while the official air show will be inaugurated by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on April 23, marking the birth anniversary of Babu Veer Kunwar Singh, a legendary freedom fighter of the 1857 revolt.

S Siddhartha, the additional Chief Secretary of the cabinet secretariat, shared the information, that 9 Hawk-132 jets from the Surya Kiran Aerobatic Team will do the dress rehearsal on April 22 and the main event on April 23, to be inaugurated by CM Nitish Kumar.
The timing of the air show was between 10:15 AM to 12:15 PM on April 22 and 23 near the approach road in front of the Divisional Commissioner’s office, close to Gandhi Maidan.
IAF Surya Kiran tribute to Bapu Veer Kunwar Singh:
“Babu Veer Kunwar Singh was the hero of the 1857 freedom movement and remains an inspiration to us all,” Siddhartha said. “This air show is our tribute to his legacy and to all martyrs of India’s first freedom struggle,” he said.

The event is being coordinated by the Directorate of Civil Aviation in collaboration with the District administration Patna and cabinet Secretariat.
On April 22, special invitations will be extended to students from schools and colleges to witness the rehearsal and interact with IAF personnel.
“We want the youth to draw inspiration from our Air Force. Events like this foster patriotism and encourage the next generation to serve the nation,” Siddhartha added.
He emphasized that this event will resemble the grandeur of Republic Day and Independence Day celebrations, aiming to boost civic pride and connect citizens with the armed forces.
