Patna, April 2, 2024: The Election Commission of India (ECI) has removed the district Magistrates (DMs) and Superintendent of Police (SPs) of Nawada and Bhojpur districts from all election-related duties for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
The ECI directed the Chief Secretary to implement the order:
In a directive issued to the Chief Secretary of Bihar on Monday, the Commission ordered the immediate implementation of the decision and instructed that the officers hand over their charges to their immediate juniors.
The officers affected by the order include Ashutosh Kumar Verma (2010-batch IAS), DM of Nawada, Ambrish Rahul, 2017-bathch (IPS), SP of Nawada, Raj Kumar (2010-batch IAS), DM of Bhojpur, and Pramod Kumar Yadav 2017-batch IPS), SP of Bhojpur.
The electoral body has also directed that these four officers must not be assigned any election-related responsibilities until the completion of the general elections in Bihar.
Reasons not specified by the electoral body:
Although the Commission has not specified the reasons behind its decision, such actions are typically taken to ensure free, fair and impartial conduct of elections in sensitive and high-stakes constituencies.
The Lok Sabha polls in Bihar will be held in 7 phases.
The polling in Nawada will take place in the first phase and Bhojpur in the fourth phase.
The political battle in the Nawada and Ara Lok Sabha seats is expected to be intense between the NDA and the Grand Alliance.
