Congress downplays Tejashwi Yadav’s role in Grand Alliance amid CM face row.

Patna, June 8, 2025: Tension has resurfaced within the Grand Alliance in Bihar following comments from Bihar Congress in-charge Krishna Allavaru, who stated that Tejashwi Yadav is not the Chief Ministerial face of the alliance, but merely the chairman of the coordination committee.
The remark has triggered a fresh political rift ahead of the Bihar Assembly elections 2025.
Krishna Allavaru’s comment came shortly after Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s visit to Bihar, during which the issue of alliance leadership and election integrity took centre stage.
Speaking to the media persons, Allavaru clarified, “Tejashwi Yadav has been appointed as the chairman of the coordination committee, not declared the CM face of the alliance.”
Tejashwi Yadav measured response to Congress remarks:
In response, RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav sought to downplay the controversy.
“There is no need to be upset or worried. Our focus is to create a new Bihar. Efforts are ongoing in that direction,” he said appealing for unity within the alliance.
However, the statement from the Congress camp has clearly unsettled internal dynamics within the Grand Alliance, especially since the RJD has been consistently positioning Tejashwi Yadav as its natural CM candidate.
Backing Rahul Gandhi’s remarks on election integrity:
Tejashwi Yadav echoed Rahul Gandhi’s concerns over electoral transparency, accusing the Election Commission of bias during the 2020 Bihar Assembly elections.

“Rahul Gandhi has rightly expressed his apprehension. What happened during the last election? Counting was paused during the day and resumed at night. The Election Commission had to hold three press conferences to justify its actions,” Yadav alleged.

He further accused the Election Commission of acting as a cell of the BJP stating that in such circumstances, raising the question is justified.
Alliance cracks widening:
The row over the Chief Ministerial face underscores deeper strategic and ideological fissures within the Grand Alliance.
While the RJD is keen to project Tejashwi Yadav as the undisputed leader, Congress appears reluctant to endorse him publicly, possibly to retain bargaining power or avoid being overshadowed.
