Patna, January 9, 2026: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Friday visited the JP Ganga Path, popularly known as Patna’s Marine Drive, and reviewed the ongoing plantation, landscaping, and beautification work along the stretch.

During the inspection, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar directed officials to expedite the work and ensure its completion within a fixed timeline.
He addressed that the project should be developed keeping in mind public safety and convenience, and environmental sustainability, as the road runs along the banks of the Ganga River.
Sharing details of the visit, Nitish Kumar said, “On Friday, I inspected the landscaping, tree plantation, and beautification work being carried out on the JP Ganga Path. I instructed the concerned authorities to complete the work at the earliest. Since this park is located along the Ganga, special attention must be paid to public safety and convenience.”
He further added, “Road safety and uninterrupted traffic flow on the JP Ganga Path must also be ensured. In the coming days, this area will become a major attraction for the people.”
The JP Ganga Path, situated along the northern bank of Patna beside the Ganga River, has emerged as one of the major tourist attractions of the city since it was opened to the public.
The road also serves as a crucial connectivity corridor, linking North Bihar districts such as Saran and Vaishali through the JP Setu and Mahatma Gandhi Setu, respectively.
The marine drive is connected with Didha, Atal Path, LCT Ghat, Gandhi Maidan, PMCH, Patna University, NIT, Gaighat, Kangan Ghat, Krishna Ghat, Patna Ghat, and Didarganj.
The Nitish Kumar government has ambitious plans to expand the JP Ganga path further—from Digha Ghat to Koilwar on the western side and Didarganj to Bakhtiyarpur on the eastern side.
The length of JP Ganga Path is 20.5 KM:
At present, the 20.5 km JP Ganga Path is operational between Digha Ghat and Didarganj.
The total cost of the project is Rs 3,831 crore. The foundation stone of the JP Ganga Path was laid on October 11, 2013, on the birth anniversary of Loknayak Jayprakash Narayan.
With its scenic view of the Ganga, especially during the evening, the JP Ganga Path is expected to boost tourism and is being seen as a game-changer for urban mobility in Patna.
