Chirag Paswan admitted that the flood in North Bihar is alarming.

Patna October 1, 2024: Chirag Paswan, the Union Minister of the Food Processing of the Narendra Modi Government, on Tuesday, visited the flood-affected Saharsa district in Bihar. He acknowledged the alarming situation caused by the devastating floods.

He emphasized that the state government’s priority is to provide relief and rehabilitation to the affected victims.

Chirag Paswan travelled to Saharsa by road and reached the worst affected Navhatta block by boat, where he distributed the food packets to the affected victims.

“The floods are not new to North Bihar’s Kosi and Seemanchal Regions but the scale of devastation this year is unlike before. There is a need for permanent solutions to the recurring issue, such as river-linking projects and construction of high dams,” Paswan said.

Chirag Paswan assured that he would present these concerns to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Nitish Kumar upon his return.

The minister also highlighted the importance of rehabilitation efforts focusing on helping displaced villagers return to their homes as quickly as possible.

“I have instructed the local administration to arrange community kitchens and provide fodders for cattle. I have received some complaints about the irregularities in distributing essential supplies such as food and tents and asked the officials to resolve these issues promptly,” he said.

Paswan further explained that both PM Narendra Modi and CM Nitish Kumar are deeply concerned about the disaster’s impact on Bihar, particularly in 13 districts, of Kosi, Tirhut, Seemanchal and Champaran regions.

“The flooding, worsened by the release of large volumes of water from the Valmiki Nagar Gandak Barrage and Kosi Barrage since September 27, has significantly affected low-lying areas,” he said.

Chirag Paswan instructed the officials of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), to prioritize rescue operations.

Apart from Chirag Paswan, Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai also inspected the flood-affected areas and instructed the NDRF and SDRF officials to ensure that no negligence occurs in the rescue missions for flood victims.
