The Monsoon Session of the Bihar Assembly will begin today, with 12 bills likely.

Patna, July 21, 2025: The monsoon session of the Bihar Legislative Assembly and Council begins today, July 21, marking a crucial phase for the Nitish Kumar-led government as it faces its last session before the upcoming assembly elections.
According to the Assembly Secretariat, the session will include five sittings, during which question hour, financial matters, non-official resolutions, and key legislative work will be taken up.
Sources indicate that the government plans to introduce around 12 bills during the session.
Supplementary budget and legislative calendar in this monsoon session:
On the first day, the first Supplementary budget for the current financial year will be presented, along with reports of ordinances and committee recommendations approved by the governor.
On July 22-23, state bills to be introduced and discussed.
On July 24, discussion and voting on the supplementary budget, followed by the presentation and appropriation bills.
On July 25, the session will conclude with a discussion on non-official resolutions.
Ruling vs opposition showdown expected in this monsoon session:
The monsoon session is expected to see heated exchanges between the ruling NDA and the opposition Grand Alliance, with the opposition preparing to corner the government on issues such as law and order, rising crime, and ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter list.

In response, the ruling JDU-BJP alliance will highlight key welfare measures, including 35% reservation for women in government services, increased social security pensions for over 1.11 crore beneficiaries, and 125 units of free electricity to domestic consumers.
All eyes on the Tej Pratap-Tejashwi dynamic:
A key point of interest will be Tej Pratap Yadav, who was recently expelled from RJD, yet continues to hold his seat next to Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Yadav in the assembly.
Despite his strained relations with the family, Tej Pratap has not sought a change of seat, setting the stage for an intriguing visual during the session as two sons of Lalu Prasad Yadav will be seen seated together for the first time since the political rift.

Bihar Assembly Speaker Nand Kishor Yadav has appealed to all parties to smoothly proceed for the Monsoon Session.
