Lands for the Amas Darbhanga 189 KM Expressway Project were given to NHAI to boost regional connectivity.

Patna December 20, 2024: The decks are clear for  Bihar’s first Expressway project called Amas Darbhanga Expressway as the process of handing over land to the National Highway Authority Of India (NHAI) has commenced in Gaya district.

Land in the Tikari area was acquired for the six-lane Amas-Shivam NH 119D as part of this project. Key officials, including Tikari SDM Sujit Kumar and DCLR Vikram Benemi, Inspected and facilitated the handover of land, particularly near Khatu Mauja in the district.

Amas Darbhanga will be Bihar’s first E-way:

This Expressway will be Bihar’s first and a much-awaited infrastructural addition. Unlike neighbouring Uttar Pradesh, which has several operational expressways, Bihar has lagged in expressway development despite discussions about multiple projects.

The expressway will be a six-lane, access-controlled highway, ensuring limited entry and exit points for smooth traffic flow and enhanced safety.

Construction is set to begin soon, with completion expected by 2025. Once operational, the expressway will improve connectivity and significantly reduce travel time between Amas and Darbhanga, Bolstering economic and social development in the region.

Discussions about other expressways in Bihar are ongoing, such as extending the Purvanchal expressway to Buxar and eventually connecting Buxar to Patna.

The expressway’s development signals a major step forward for Bihar, promising to enhance regional connectivity and set a precedent for future infrastructure projects in the state.

Amas Darbhanga E-Way is a part of the Bharat Mala Project:

The Amas Darbhanga Expressway, part of the Bharatmala Project, is an important infrastructure initiative aimed at improving connectivity in Bihar.

Its start point is Amas on NH-19 (Delhi-Kolkata Highway) and its endpoint is Nawada village in Darbhanga, where it connects with NH-27 (Delhi-Siliguri Highway).

The length of the Amas Darbhanga Expressway is 189 km. The expressway will pass through various towns and villages, including Amas, Ramnagar, Sabalpur, Chaksikander, Dabhaich, Ibrahimpur, Okri, Pabhera, Mathurapur, Guraru, Panchanpur, Bela, Bahuara, Shahpur Baghauni (Tajpur), Shiv Nandanpur ( Budhi Gandak), Basudevpur Ramnagar (Laheriyasarai) and Bela Nawada (Darbhanga).

This expressway will improve regional connectivity by linking North and South Bihar.

It will facilitate better trade and transportation, boosting regional economies.

Construction Progress:

The total length of the Gaya Section is 55 km with 40 km under construction and land disputes affecting 15km, but efforts are underway to resolve them.

Dr, Tyag Rajan, the district magistrate of Gaya, said, “Physical intervention process is also going on to give NHAI possession of the land.”

This expressway is expected to be transformative for Bihar, addressing long-standing connectivity challenges and catalysing socio-economic development.
