Bihar is facing a severe cold wave due to a western disturbance with temperature falls 2 to7 degrees.

Patna December 11, 2024: Bihar is currently experiencing an intense cold wave, with temperatures dropping significantly due to the effects of a western disturbance.

The Meteorological Department reports that the cold has intensified across the state, with temperatures plummeting by 2 to 7 degrees Celsius in many areas.

Dehri, in Rohtas district, recorded the coldest temperature at 9.6 degrees Celsius.

Weather forecast and alerts amid cold wave:

The cold wave, exacerbated by snowfall in northern hilly regions, has led to biting cold in Bihar’s plains. The Meteorological Department has forecast further declines in temperature, warning of bone-chilling conditions.

Sheikhpura saw the highest temperature drop of 2.6 degrees Celsius, with a minimum temperature of 11 degrees Celsius.

Rapid evening temperature drops of 5 to 7 degrees are being recorded within just two hours after 5 PM.

Dense fog blankets the state, especially from evening to morning, causing visibility issues.

A yellow alert has been issued for districts expected to experience extreme cold and dense fog, including Sitamarhi, Madhubani, Muzaffarpur, Samastipur, Darbhanga, Supaul, Sahrsa, Madhepura, Araria, Purnia, Kishanganj, Katihar, Khagaria, Vaishali, Bhagalpur, Banka, Munger, and Jamui.

These areas are likely to face heightened cold conditions and dense fog over the next two days.

Measures and guidelines:

In response to the severe cold wave, the Disaster Management Department has issued protective measures and set up a State Emergency Operations Center to assist residents during emergencies.

A toll-free number has been provided for immediate help.

For the general population, Stay indoors during peak cold hours, use proper heating, and avoid exposure to dense fog.

For livestock, Keep cattle sheds warm, consult veterinarians if animals show signs of discomfort, and ensure safe arrangements for heating with proper ventilation.

The cold wave has significantly impacted daily life in Bihar. People are staying indoors from early evening as the cold intensifies. The state remains blanketed in fog, reducing outdoor activities and visibility during night-time and early morning hours.

As the cold wave persists, residents are urged to follow safety guidelines and remain vigilant against the harsh weather conditions.
