Patna, June 25, 2024: The JDU and RJD on Tuesday announced the names of their parliamentary party leaders in both Houses of Parliament soon after the newly elected MPs took oath.
Dileshwar Kamat will lead JDU in the Lok Sabha:
In the JDU, Dileshwar Kamat will lead the party in the Lok Sabha, while Sanjay Jha has been made the party leader in the Rajya Sabha.
Kamat, a two-time MP from Supaul, defeated RJD’s Chandrahas Chaupal by 1,69,803 votes. Kamat comes from Bihar’s Mahadalit community, and JDU insiders say his elevation is aimed at signaling outreach to that community.
Sanjay Jha, considered close to Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and part of his informal “kitchen cabinet,” earlier served as Water Resources Minister in Bihar. Jha thanked Nitish Kumar in a post on X, saying:
“This is a proud moment for me. You (Nitish Kumar) have expressed faith in me by entrusting me with a big responsibility. I will fulfil it with complete loyalty and dedication.”
Abahy Kushwaha will be the leader of the RJD in the Lok Sabha:
The RJD has appointed Abhay Kushwaha as its leader in the Lok Sabha and Prem Chandra Gupta as its leader in the Rajya Sabha. Gupta is known to be close to RJD supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav, while Abhay Kushwaha—who switched from JD(U) to RJD ahead of the Lok Sabha polls—won from Aurangabad.
RJD leaders say Lalu Prasad, by elevating Abhay Kushwaha, has sought to send a message to the Kushwaha vote bloc.
