Patna, June 17, 2024: In view of severe heat and oppressive humidity, Patna, District Magistrate Shirsat Kapil Ashok has ordered the closure of all schools up to Class 8 till June 19. Summer vacation in schools was scheduled to end on June 17.

The order has been issued following an alert from the India Meteorological Department (IMD), which has forecast a severe heatwave in Patna district over the next 72 hours. According to IMD, maximum temperatures in Patna are likely to remain between 44 degrees Celsius and 46 degrees Celsius during the period.
Extreme conditions could pose a threat to students:
The district administration has said that the prevailing conditions pose a serious risk to the health and safety of educational academy children. Therefore, teaching activities up to class 8 have been stopped in all government and private schools. However, teachers and non-teaching staff will remain present in educational academy.
The order will come into effect from June 18 and remain valid till June 19.
