Patna, June 16, 2024: Two accused, including an alleged examination mafia operator, have confessed to their involvement in the NEET question paper leak case, an officer of the Economic Offences Unit (EOU) said on Sunday.
The Bihar Police EOU has constituted a nine-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the leak. So far, 13 people—including six examination mafias, four students and three parents—have been arrested.
NEET accused accepted their involvement:
Among them, Sikandar Prasad Yadav (56), a junior engineer in Danapur Municipal Council, and a candidate, Ayush Kumar, have admitted their roles.
Officials said Ayush was made to memorize the question paper a day before the May 5 examination. The alleged leak reportedly occurred on May 4.
In his confession, Sikandar said two persons—Amit and Nitish—brought the question paper and answer key to a private premises—Learn Play School, under Ramakrishna Nagar police station.
There were 25-30 NEET candidates present, and they were made to memorize answers till 9 am on exam day, after which they were driven directly to their centres.
Investigators said each candidate allegedly paid around Rs 40 lakh, and Sikandar’s share in the deal was Rs 8 lakh.
SIT has identified some accused, including the kingpin:
The SIT has identified names alleged accused linked to the solver gang and is conducting raids to locate exam mafia kingpin Sanjeev Mukhiya of Nalanda, Chintu alias Baldev of Karaiyaparasurai, Pintu of Hilsa, Rakesh Ranjan alias Rocky, Ashutosh of Didarganj, Nitish Yadav, Manish Prakash and Nitish Patel alias Abhimanyu.
The EOU has also received details of 11 more NEET candidates—including seven girls—from the NTA.
All are suspected of solver-gang links. They have been served notices and will join the probe along with their parents in Patna on Monday and Tuesday.
