New York June 12: After the early wicket of Virat Kohli and skipper Rohit Sharma, T20 specialist Surya Kumar Yadav steadied the ship with middle-order batsman Shivam Dubey and defeated USA by seven wickets in the World Cup match in Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York on Wednesday.
With this, India is the first team in Group A to reach in top eight of the ICC T20 World Cup.
Surya Kumar Yadav scored an unbeaten 50 runs in 49 deliveries. He made the partnership with Rishabh Pant first and then an unbeaten partnership with Shivam Dubey of 67 runs of 67 balls and won the match for Team India in 18.2 overs.
Virat Kohli lost his wicket on the first ball caught behind the wicket. Rohit Sharma is also out cheaply.
Earlier, India won the toss and elected to field first. The wicket of New York has a lot of things for the pace bowlers. The batting was not easy on this pitch.
Earlier in the start of the USA inning, the host got a double blow in the first over of Arshdeep Singh. Arshdeep Singh finally completed his successful spell of 4 overs costing 9 runs and took 4 wickets. It was the best figure of an Indian bowler in the T20 World Cup. He was declared the player of the match.
