Patna, June 5, 2024: The Election Commission declared the results of the Lok Sabha elections late on Tuesday night, with the NDA losing nine seats in Bihar compared to its 2019 performance. This time, the NDA secured 30 out of 40 seats in the state, while the Grand Alliance managed to win 10 seats.
NDA secures 30th seats in the Lok Sabha election:
In the NDA camp, JDU and BJP secured 12 seats each, LJPRV won 5 seats, and HAMS won 1 seat. Among the Grand Alliance partners, RJD won 4 seats, Congress 3, CPI-ML 2, and one seat went to an Independent candidate.
LJPRV, led by Chirag Paswan, emerged as one of the biggest winners in Bihar, achieving a 100% strike rate by winning all five seats it contested. Chirag Paswan won from Hajipur, while his brother-in-law Arun Bharti clinched victory from Jamui. They defeated RJD candidates Shiv Chandra Ram and Archana Ravidas, respectively.
Lalu Prasad Yadav’s only daughter won the election:
RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav’s family witnessed mixed results. His eldest daughter, Misa Bharti, secured a significant victory from Patliputra, defeating the BJP’s Ram Kripal Yadav on her third attempt after losses in 2014 and 2019. However, Lalu’s second daughter, Rohini Acharya, lost the Saran seat by a narrow margin of 13,661 votes. BJP’s Rajiv Pratap Rudy retained Saran, completing a hat-trick with wins in 2014, 2019, and now 2024.
Karakat drew national attention due to the presence of Bhojpuri actor Pawan Singh, making it a high-profile triangular contest. Ultimately, CPI-ML candidate him by a margin of 1,05,858 votes. NDA candidate Upendra Kushwaha surprisingly slipped to third place.
Purnea was another hotly contested seat due to the entry of Rajesh Ranjan alias Pappu Yadav, who dissolved his JAP party to join Congress. But after seat-sharing allocated Purnea to RJD, he contested as an Independent and won by 23,847 votes, defeating JDU’s Santosh Kushwaha. RJD candidate Bima Bharti finished third,
With these results, Bihar has once again underscored its reputation for unpredictable political swings. While Nitish Kumar has emerged as a potential kingmaker at the national level, Chirag Paswan’s decisive victories have strengthened his political stature within the NDA.
