Patna, May 2, 2026: Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary has departed for New Delhi for a series of crucial meetings with top BJP leadership, fueling strong speculation about an imminent cabinet expansion in Bihar.
During his visit, he is expected to meet Union Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP national president Nitin Nabin. Discussions are likely to center on finalizing the party’s list for the much-awaited cabinet expansion.
Samrat Choudhary has key meetings scheduled with the BJP leadership:
Apart from Amit Shah, the Chief Minister is also scheduled to meet Vinod Tawde, the BJP’s in-charge for Bihar.
Sources indicate that these meetings will play a decisive role in shaping the new cabinet structure.
The deliberations are expected to include the allocation of portfolios and the inclusion of new faces in the government. Samrat Choudhary is likely to return to Patna by Sunday.

Prior to his Delhi visit, the Chief Minister met former CM Nitish Kumar at his residence on 7 Circular Road in Patna. Sharing details of the meeting on social media, Samrat Choudhary described it as a “cordial interaction,” stating that he drew inspiration from Nitish Kumar’s experience and guidance.
However, the meeting also intensified political speculation regarding the timing and scope of the cabinet expansion.
Cabinet expansion likely soon:
Since taking the oath on April 14, the cabinet expansion has remained pending.
Currently, Samrat Choudhary holds 29 portfolios, Vijay Kumar Choudhary holds 10 portfolios, and Bijendra Prasad Yadav holds 8 portfolios.

With the Bihar Legislative Assembly comprising 243 seats, the cabinet can have a maximum of 36 ministers, leaving significant scope for expansion.
Development push continues alongside political activity:
Amid the political developments, the government is also moving forward on key infrastructure projects.
The extension of JP Ganga Path—considered a flagship project of Nitish Kumar—has received cabinet approval to be extended up to Buxar.

Recently, CM Samrat Choudhary personally inspected the project and reviewed ongoing construction work, issuing necessary directives to officials.
With high-level meetings underway in Delhi, all eyes are now on the outcome of these discussions, which are expected to shape the next phase of Bihar’s political and administrative landscape.
