Strong man Ashok Mahto claimed his wife will defeat Lalan Singh in the battle of Munger in LS poll.

Patna, March 26, 2024: Convicted gangster-turned-political aspirant Ashok Mahto on Tuesday claimed that his wife Anita Devi will defeat former JD-U national president Rajiv Ranjan Singh alias Lalan Singh in the Munger Lok Sabha constituency by a margin of more than three lakh votes in the 2024 general election.

Speaking to reporters in Munger, Ashok Mahto said:

“My wife will defeat Lalan Singh with a margin of more than three lakh votes. Our leader, Lalu Prasad Yadav, has blessed us, and the people of Munger are preparing to defeat the JD-U candidate. We are contesting with public donations while Lalan Singh is buying votes. I am not a strongman; I always fight for the poor.”

Ashok Mahto, who spent 17 years in prison before being released on bail in 2023, married Anita Devi recently at the age of 62 to field her in the election, as he himself is disqualified due to criminal convictions.

A key figure in several high-profile cases—including the Nawada jail break, Manikpur massacre, and the murder of MP Rajo Singh—Mahto’s life inspired the negative lead character in Netflix’s web series Khakee: The Bihar Chapter.

Explaining his decision to marry during the traditional inauspicious period of Kharmas, Mahto said:

“As a convicted person, I cannot contest elections. I married to launch my wife in the poll fray. I always fight for social justice in Bihar.”

Mahto also claimed a sweeping victory for the RJD-led alliance, declaring.

“There is a wave in favour of RJD and Lalu Prasad Yadav in Bihar. Our alliance will win all 40 seats, and the NDA will be wiped out.”
