70 candidates withdrew nominations for the second phase of the Bihar Assembly polls.

Patna, October 24, 2025: After the withdrawal process for the second phase of nominations ended at 5 p.m. on Thursday, 70 candidates withdrew their names from the Bihar election race.

According to data released by the Election body on Friday, a total of 1,761 candidates had filed nominations for 122 assembly constituencies across 18 districts for the second phase of the Bihar Assembly Election 2025.

Following scrutiny, 389 nominations were rejected, leaving 1372 valid candidates.

After the withdrawal period, the final number of candidates in the fray stands at 1302.

District-wise breakdown of candidates who withdrew their names:

The highest number of withdrawals came from Kishanganj, where 10 candidates pulled out of the race.

This was followed by Araria (7), and West Champaran, East Champaran, Madhubani, Katihar, and Rohtas (5 each).

Gaya and Nawada saw 4 withdrawals each, while Sitamarhi, Bhagalpur, Banka, Jehanabad, and Aurangabad recorded 3 withdrawals each.

One candidate each withdrew from Sheohar, Supaul, Purnea, Arwal, and Jamui, while no candidate withdrew from Kaimur district.

Election schedule and political contest:  

The nomination process for the second phase began on October 13 and closed on October 20, with voting scheduled for November 11, and the result will come out on November 14.

The 2025 Bihar Assembly election is shaping up to be a direct contest between the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA and the opposition Grand Alliance (Mahagathbandhan).

While the NDA has already launched its campaign across the state, the Grand Alliance is preparing to kick-start its outreach following internal disputes over seat-sharing arrangements, which delayed the campaign rollout.

Tejashwi Yadav is starting his campaign on Friday. He will address five rallies and road shows in Banka, Saharsa, Darbhanga, Samastipur and Vaishali.
