Congress announced the names of three candidates of Bihar.
Patna: Congress has announced the names of three candidates to contest the Lok Sabha election in Bihar.
The grand old party has given the ticket to Ajit Sharma to contest from Bhagalpur, Tariq Anwar to contest from Katihar and Mohamad Javed was given the ticket of Kishanganj Lok Sabha seat. Polling for these three seats will take place in the second phase on April 26 and the nomination has started on March 28. The last date of filing the nomination is April 5.
Mohammad Jawed was the only sitting MP of the grand alliance in Bihar. He contested the 2019 Lok Sabha election on the ticket of Congress and defeated the JD-U candidate at that time. The party has shown faith in him again. He will contest from this seat. During the 2019 Lok Sabha election NDA had won 39 out of 40 seats in Bihar.
Tariq Anwar was given the ticket to contest from Katihar. He won the Katihar seat during the Modi wave in 2014. He had contested that election on the ticket of NCP. Katihar is considered as a Muslim dominant area in Bihar. After that election, he joined the Congress and contested the Lok Sabha election 2019 but lost to Dulal Chandra Goswami of JD-U. These two leaders will contest against each other in 2024 as well.
Congress has given the ticket to former CLP leader Ajeet Sharma to contest from Bhagalpur. He is currently representing Bhagalpur in Bihar assembly. Ajeet Sharma is considered as a strong leader in the Bhagalpur region. He will challenge sitting MP Ajay Mandal of JD-U in this election.
Congress is contesting in the 9 Lok Sabha constituencies in Bihar and has officially announced the names of only three candidates so far. The grand old party is a part of INDIA bloc in Bihar. Besides Congress, RJD is contesting on 26 seats, CPI ML on 3, 1 seat to CPI and 1 seat to CPM.
