Wildlife animal lovers may be enthralled with rising numbers of tigers in VTR.

Patna July 29: Wildlife animal lovers may be overjoyed with the growing population of tigers at Valmikinagar Tiger Reserve (VTR).

The number of tigers has reached 54 in the VTR. Besides, around 16 cubs are also with them.

“VTR is a place which provides natural habitat to the wildlife animals in Valmikinagar. It has an ideal grassland as well as forest cover and several rivers, creating a perfect ecosystem for both herbivorous and carnivorous animals. The combination of resources ensures that food and water are readily available, contributing to the thriving tiger population and overall health of VTR,” DFO of wildlife Atish Kumar said.

According to an official, the population of tigers in 2006 was just 6 which reached  10 in 2010, the number had reached 28 in 2014. In 2018, the number of tigers was 31 it reached 54 in 2023.

“We are making efforts to increase the numbers of carnivorous animals in the VTR. It is necessary to make the ecological cycle strong. Tigers of VTR, known for their agility, can hunt other animals in just 35 to 45 seconds,” he said.

One of the significant reasons for the growing population of tigers is the enhanced security of VTR. It is located on the Bihar-Nepal border and faces high risk of poaching. However, the officers of the VTR have made adequate security arrangements at the place to protect wildlife animals from poachers.

Tigar is a territorial animal that marks the area through urination and generally lives in a dense forest. There are 8 types of tigers in the world and 3 of them have gone extinct.

Growing tiger numbers are also encouraging wildlife lovers to visit the VTR. The state government has recently opened a guest house in VTR to encourage wildlife tourism.
