Patna, November 24, 2025: After the distribution of portfolios among 26 ministers in Bihar, Vijay Kumar Sinha, the Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar, on Monday assumed charge of the Revenue and Land Reforms Department.

Vijay Kumar Sinha called a meeting soon after assuming charge of the office:

Shortly after taking office, Sinha convened a meeting with senior officials and signalled a tougher stance on land-related irregularities, encroachments and mafia networks operating across the state.

Vijay Kumar Sinha announced that a major crackdown on illegal land traders will be launched soon, asserting that the government will not tolerate any unlawful activities.

“I warn all illegal land traders, if you are involved in wrongdoing, stop immediately. Direct action will now be initiated,” he said.

He highlighted that land disputes, illegal occupation, document forgery, and the involvement of middlemen have long plagued Bihar, calling them deep-rooted challenges that the government is determined to address.

Sinha noted that he had briefly worked in the same department earlier, which gave him an understanding of how crucial the sector is for safeguarding government land as well as the interests of citizens.

He added that after sand and liquor, illegal land traders have become a major source of unlawful earnings, and firm action will be taken against those involved.

“I am not here to intimidate anyone, but I urge all mafia elements to withdraw from illegal activities immediately. As peaceful reforms have taken place in the revenue sector. We will also keep an eye on white-caller individuals who patronize crime and corruption,” he said.

Primary focus of the state government:

Vijay Kumar Sinha emphasized that his primary focus will be on ensuring smooth and transparent services for small and marginal farmers, particularly issues related to land mutation, challan orders, and other land-related processes.

He pointed out that the real work of the department begins at the zonal level, and therefore, special attention will be given to increasing transparency in zonal offices, eliminating middlemen, and simplifying public services.

Vijay Kumar Sinha also announced that he will soon launch a state-wide zonal inspection campaign to directly hear people’s grievances and ensure accountability at the grassroots level.
