Patna, April 8, 2024: Bihar cabinet minister Vijay Kumar Chaudhary on Monday dismissed claims that Chief Minister Nitish Kumar touched the feet of Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the rally held in Nawada on Sunday.

His clarification came after a video went viral on social media, purportedly showing Nitish Kumar bowing before the Prime Minister.

The suncitynews.com has not verified the authenticity of the viral video.

Vijay Kumar Chaudhary’s clarification:

“Sometimes observed from a distance and made that statement, but I was present on the stage. The Chief Minister did not touch the Prime Minister’s feet. In the video circulating on social media, he is seen holding the PM’s hand,” Vijay Kumar Chaudhary said.

Vijay Kumar Chaudhary accused the opposition of diverting attention from real issues, saying,

‘They are not talking about development or people’s concerns. Discussing who touched whom is a sign of political bankruptcy.”

Tejashwi Yadav criticized Nitish Kumar:

The controversy began after Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Yadav criticized Nitish Kumar, calling the act “embarrassing.”

“Nitish Kumar is my guardian and one of the senior-most leaders of the country. It is embarrassing that he touched the feet of PM Modi,” Tejashwi said.

The RJD leader recalled how Nitish Kumar once returned financial aid from then Gujarat CM Narendra Modi during the Bihar floods and had openly said that the Atal-Advani era of the BJP was different from the current regime.

“A few months ago, Nitish Kumar was criticizing PM Modi and HM Amit Shah, saying they were doing false publicity and controlling the media. When I was with him, he used to say Tejashwi is doing well and will lead Bihar’s future politics. Now suddenly we are wrong and they are right,” Tejashwi remarked.

He further added, “Nitish Kumar is our respected guardian, but what has happened to him? Even 99% of JDU workers are not happy with this.”
