Patna July 12: Twelve students were sustaining injuries after a balcony of a building of a private school collapsed in Madhepura’s district of Bihar on Friday.

The students were assembled for morning assembly when the mishap took place in the National DAV Public School in Udakishunganj block. Three students have critical conditions.

Rescue operation:

After the mishap, the district police were informed. Cops from Udakishunganj police station, along with residents, carried out the rescue operation. The injured students were initially taken to a common health center for preliminary treatment. After initial treatment, they were referred to Jawahar Lal Nehru Medical College and Hospital in Bhagalpur for better care.

The immediate response and subsequent referral to a larger hospital indicate the severity of the injuries and the need for advanced medical care for some of the victims.

The focus now will likely be on ensuring the safety and well-being of the injured students, addressing the immediate risks posed by the old building, and holding accountable those responsible for the oversight.

The action of the Education Department:

The Block Education Officer (BEO) of Udakishunganj Nirmala Kumari visited the site and hospital.

“The school operated in a building over 100 years old, previously a sugar mill. The building’s age and condition were highlighted as safety concerns in the past. An investigation will be conducted, and actions will be taken against the school operator,” Kumari said.
