Three individuals drowned in Arrah.

Patna, August 11:

Three individuals, in age groups of 15 to 20, lost their lives after drowning in a pit filled with flood water in Bihar’s Arrah city on Sunday.

The three individuals, identified as Aniket Kumar Pandey (20), Atul Kumar Shukla (17) and Subham Kumar (15) had gone to inspect an under-construction building located in the Majhaua airport locality.

According to an official, the under-construction building was adjacent to a pit filled with flood water.

One of the victims accidentally slipped into the pit, likely due to soil erosion at the edge, which he did not notice.

The strong flow of water overwhelmed him and when his two friends attempted to rescue him by jumping in, they also drowned.

Passersby quickly alerted the authorities by calling the emergency helpline number 112. The district administration, along with local residents, responded to the scene and managed to retrieve the bodies. The victims were transported to Sadar Hospital, where doctors declared them dead on arrival.

Vikas Kumar, the Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO) of Arrah Sadar range, stated, “As we learned, one of the victims died after slipping inside the pit. There was soil erosion which the victim probably did not realize, leading him to the edge of the pit. His two friends attempted to save him but also drowned.”

He added that the parents of the three individuals have been informed and further action is underway.

This incident has highlighted the safety concern in the region, as continuous rain in the Bhojpur district over the past few days has led to ponds and canals being filled with floodwater.

Shockingly, the district administration had not installed warning boards to alert people about the dangers posed by such pits, ponds and canals, a factor that may contributed to this tragic accident.
