Patna, August 29, 2025: The Nitish Kumar government has approved the launch of a new welfare scheme aimed at women’s empowerment and employment generation—the Mukhyamantri Mahila Rojgar Yojana on Friday.
The decision was taken in a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, as a CM secretariat, where this proposal was the only agenda item cleared.
Nitish Kumar’s financial assistance for women’s self-reliance:
Under the scheme, one woman from each family in the state will be eligible to receive financial aid for starting her employment choice. An initial installment of Rs 10,000 will be provided directly into the beneficiaries’ bank accounts
The transfer of funds will begin in September 2025.
After six months of starting the work, the government will conduct an assessment of progress.
Depending on the requirement, women can then receive additional financial assistance of up to Rs 2 lakh.
Support infrastructure, Haat Bazaars for women entrepreneurs:
To strengthen market access, the state will also develop haat bazaars across villages, towns and cities, specially made for women.
The government expects this to encourage local entrepreneurship, boost family income, and reduce the need for outmigration from Bihar for jobs.
JDU reaction:
Reacting to the announcement, JDU MLC Neeraj Kumar praised CM Nitish Kumar’s long-standing commitment to women’s empowerment.
“After 24 November 2005, Nitish Kumar has continuously worked for the welfare of women and to make them self-dependent.
Today, our daughters and sisters are serving in the police department, Jivika sisters have become role models, women have 35% reservation in jobs, and the domicile policy benefits them.
Now, this new scheme will give financial assistance to one woman per family to make her self-reliant.
Some people live only for their families, but our Nitish Kumar lives for the daughters and sisters of Bihar.
This is the fundamental change that has happened after Nitish Kumar took charge of the state.
