The flood situation in Bhagalpur district is worsening after an embankment was broken at Bindtoli village under Budhuchak Panchayat in Naugachia district.

A section of 200 meters of an embankment was breached, causing water to flood approximately 15 villagers in the area.

This breach has forced many villagers to take refuge in makeshift tents on the remaining portions of the embankment. However, the district administration has now asked villagers to vacate the area as soon as possible due to safety concerns.

“We are already displaced from our villages and are living on the embankment. Now, the administration is asking us to vacate the embankment as well. We are living in a state of uncertainty as we have no place to take shelter,” said Kishor Mandal, a resident of Bindtoli village.

Dr, Uttam Kumar, the Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO) of Naugachia subdivision in Bhagalpur, explained the situation: “After the embankment was breached, soil erosion began to occur in the region. We have started the restoration work and have asked the villagers to vacate the embankment to ensure their safety.”

He also mentioned that the embankment was originally constructed in 2008 for Rs 43 crore.

The breach and subsequent flood situations have created a challenge for the affected villagers, who are uncertain about their future living conditions.

The ongoing restoration work aims to prevent further erosion and flood situations, but the immediate need for safe shelter remains a critical concern for the displaced families.
