Meet Shri Krishna Singh, the Jan Suraj pick for the Tarari by-poll.

Patna October 16, 2024: Patna October 16, 2024: Prashant Kishor, the chief of the Jan Suraj Party, officially announced Lt. Gen. Shri Krishna Singh as the candidate for the Tarari assembly constituency in the upcoming by-poll, during a press briefing at his Patliputra Colony camp office in Patna on Wednesday.
While announcing LT General Sri Krishna Singh’s candidacy, Kishor also mentioned that the names of the remaining three candidates for the other constituencies will be revealed soon.
LT General Shri Krishna Singh has a long career in Indian Army:
Lt. Gen. Shri Krishna Singh, a native of Tarari, is a distinguished former Indian Army officer who graduated from the National Defence Academy (NDA) in Dehradun. Inspired by Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw, Singh joined the Gorkha Regiment and served for 41 years, participating in key military operations such as Meghdoot, Rakshak and Parakram.
After retiring in 2013, he served in the Army Tribunal until 2017, holding a position equivalent to that of a High Court judge.
Shri Krishna Singh expressed his commitment to serving his home district, emphasizing that he wishes to bring clean and healthy politics to Bihar.
“I want to work for my home district and state and am committed to fostering clean and healthy politics in Bihar. I want to bring leadership experience to benefit the local community,” he said.
Shri Krishna Singh is not in favour of Agniveer:
Shri Krishna Singh also voiced his concerns about the Agniveer policy introduced by the NDA government, noting that while soldiers under the old system serve for 17 years, the four-year tenure under the Agniveer scheme might not foster the same passion, emotional connection and values within regiments.
He highlighted that soldiers in extended services developed deep emotional ties with their regiments, questioning whether Agniveers could match this dedication, particularly in critical moments like the Galwan incident.
“When the Galwan incident happened, the passionate response was given by the Indian soldiers against the Chinese forces during the clash. At that time, the entire battalion was furious about the actions of the Chinese army personnel towards our commanding officer. It cannot be said whether the Agniveers will be able to show the kind of spirit that our army personnel had shown at that time,” he said.
Shri Krishna Singh’s candidacy, along with his remarks on military matters, brings a unique perspective to the upcoming by-polls positioning him as a candidate with both local roots and extensive national experience.
Prashant Kishor criticized the BJP over probable candidate of strongman background:
Prashant Kishor took the opportunity to contrast Shri Krishna Singh’s military background with that of the BJP’s probable candidate for Tarari, indirectly referencing Bahubali (strongman) Sunil Pandey and his son who recently joined the BJP.
Kishor remarked, “Everyone know who the BJP candidate would be in Tarari,” taking a dig at the party’s reliance on strongman politics.
He emphasized the distinction between Shri Krishna Singh’s national service and the background of the probable BJP candidate, asserting that the BJP’s future in Bihar looks dark.
The by-polls are scheduled for November 13, with results will come out on November 23. It will be a significant test ahead of the 2025 Bihar assembly elections.
As the election commission is set to issue the gazette notification on October 18, candidates will be able to file their nominations until October 25, with scrutiny concluding by October 28 and the withdrawal deadline for candidates is October 30.
For Prashant Kishor and his newly launched Jan Suraj Party, these by-elections are critical for demonstrating political strength and establishing a foothold in the state’s complex political landscape.
His remarks were aimed at positioning Jan Suraj as a party with integrity, offering candidates with distinguished national service backgrounds while painting the BJP as relying on candidates associated with strongman culture.
