Patna, June 10, 2024: The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Monday issued a notification for bye-elections to 13 seats across the country, including the Rupauli Assembly constituency in Bihar.
The bye-election will be held on July 10:
The bye-poll for the Rupauli seat will be held on July 10. The seat fell vacant after Bima Bharti, the JDU MLA from Rupauli, resigned to contest the Lok Sabha elections on an RJD ticket.
Bharti contested from the Purnea Lok Sabha constituency, but lost to independent candidate Rajesh Ranjan alias Pappu Yadav. She finished third, while JDU’s Santosh Kushwaha secured the second position.
As per the ECI schedule:
Gazette notification issuance—June 14, Last date for filing nominations—June 21, Last date for withdrawal—June 26, polling date—July 10, Counting of votes—July 13.
The bye-election is expected to draw significant political attention, given the recent Lok Sabha results and the shifting dynamics in the region.
