Patna, August 13, 2025: The voter list revision process by the Election Commission (SIR) has sparked a fresh political storm in Bihar, with Tejashwi Yadav, the Leader of Opposition, once again hinting at boycotting the upcoming Assembly elections.
Speaking to the media on Wednesday, Tejashwi Yadav said that from August 17, he will join Congress leader Rahul Gandhi in the “Vote Rights Yatra,” meeting people and raising the issue.
“After the Yatra, we will seriously consider whether to participate in the elections or not. When the Election Commission has already decided everything, it can also be considered that we do not participate,” he said.
He accused the Election Commission of “robbing votes” at the behest of the BJP and alleged massive irregularities in the voter list.
Tejashwi Yadav pointed out Muzaffarpur mayor has two EPIC numbers:
Citing examples, Tejashwi claimed that Muzaffarpur Mayor and senior BJP leader Nirmala Devi’s name appears in two separate voter lists in the same constituency, with two different EPIC cards and mismatched ages. He further alleged that her two brothers-in-law are also registered at two places with separate voter IDs.
Tejashwi Yadav also alleged that the BJP’s Bihar in-charge Bhikhu Bhai Dalsania is listed as a voter in Bihar despite being from Gujarat.
“In the 2024 Lok Sabha election, he voted in Gujarat. Now, he has removed his name from there, and he will vote in Patna. After elections, he might again remove his name here and vote in Gujarat,” he charged.
“When the revelations about SIR started coming out, the BJP has gone speechless. Till now, the Election Commission hasn’t held a press conference on this. Earlier, the BJP used agencies like ED and CBI, now it is using the Election Commission,” Tejashwi said.

Tejashwi Yadav claimed his party was deliberately defeated in 2020:
Referring to the 2020 Assembly polls, he alleged that he was made to lose by 12,000 votes in one seat and that 10 seats were “deliberately” lost.
“This is all a game of vote theft,” he claimed.
With just months left for polls, Tejashwi Yadav’s remarks have intensified the political heat.
Whether he will follow through on his boycott threat after the yatra with Rahul Gandhi remains to be seen.
