Tejashwi Yadav said Union Budget 2025 is disappointing and hollow in the context of Bihar.

Patna February 1, 2025: Leader of the Opposition, Tejashwi Yadav, has expressed strong dissatisfaction with the Union Budget 2025, labelling it as “completely disappointing and hollow.”

“Bihar is being treated unfairly and deceived with repeated promises. There is no special package for Bihar. The budget merely repeats past commitments without actual implementation,” Yadav said.

Tejashwi Yadav claimed centre has treated step-motherly to Bihar:

He criticized the budget for not allocating a special package to Bihar, asserting that the state is being “completely fooled and treated step-motherly.”

Tejashwi Yadav emphasized that many of the budget’s announcements are reiterations from previous years, lacking clarity on implementation timelines and funding allocations.

He also highlighted concerns about rising railway fares and the absence of relief measures in this regard.

In this view, the budget offers nothing new to Bihar and is merely filled with empty promises. He further remarked that during election times, there are often sweet talks without substantive action, and questioned the fate of previously announced projects, noting the lack of specified budgets and timelines.

Tejashwi Yadav also raised concerns about compensation for farmers whose land will be acquired for Greenfield airport projects, stating that Bihar has been completely treated step-motherly in this budget.

Tejashwi Yadav criticized Nitish Kumar for failing to obtain special status in Bihar:

“Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu secured a package exceeding Rs. 100,000 in the union budget, Bihar chief Nitish Kumar, being a completely unconscious state. He has been failing to advocate for special state status for Bihar,” Yadav said.

He noted that when Kumar is asked about obtaining special state status, he remains silent.

In contrast, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced several initiatives aimed at benefiting Bihar.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced the formation of the Makhana board in Bihar and the expansion of IIT Patna by enhancing the infrastructure and academic programs of the premier institute to foster higher education and research.

She also announced the establishment of the National Food Technology Institute in Bihar. A separate budget has been allocated for the development of the western Kosi Canal, the upgradation of Bihta Airport and Patna Airport to handle increased passenger traffic and improve infrastructure and the construction of three new Greenfield airports in Bihar.

Despite these announcements, Yadav remains critical, arguing that the budget lacks concrete plans and sufficient funding to address Bihar’s unique challenges.

He contends that the initiatives are either repackaged from previous budgets or lack detailed implementation strategies, leading to scepticism about their potential impact on the state’s development.
