Patna, October 10, 2025: In a major jolt to JDU, its four influential leaders joined RJD in the presence of Tejashwi Yadav on Friday.
Among those joined are former Purnea MP Santosh Kushwaha, former JDU MLA Rahul Sharma, Chanakya Prakash, son of sitting JDU MP from Banka Giridhari Yadav.
Santosh Kushwaha, who had contested from Purnea and lost to independent candidate Rajesh Ranjan alias Pappu Yadav, joined the RJD along with other leaders at the party’s state headquarters in Patna.
Welcoming the new entrants, Tejashwi Yadav launched a sharp attack on the Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, claiming that the JDU will be politically destroyed by its own ally.
Tejashwi Yadav criticized Nitish Kumar:
This government is being run by three and a half people who are destroying Nitish Kumar politically,” Tejashwi said.
“This is Nitish Kumar’s last election. He will not become Chief Minister again. The BJP will finish its party.”
Recalling the political turmoil of 2022, Tejashwi Yadav said, “When Operation Lotus was being carried out in Maharashtra and Jharkhand, they tried the same in Bihar. In fear of losing his party, Nitish Kumar came to me and asked for help. We supported him and made him Chief Minister again, but he once more switched sides.”
Tejashwi Yadav welcomed the new entrants in the RJD:
Tejashwi Yadav also highlighted the growing strength of his party in the Seemanchal region of Bihar.
“I welcome Santosh Kushwaha and other leaders into the RJD. Santosh Kushwaha is a big leader from the backward Kushwaha community. With his joining, RJD will become stronger in the Seemanchal region, where we previously had fewer seats,” he added.
Apart from Santosh Kushwaha, Rahul Sharma, son of former MP Jagdish Sharma, also joined the RJD, marking what politically observers call a significant shift in Magadh politics.
Belonging to the influential Bhumihar community, Sharma’s inclusion is expected to strengthen the RJD’s position in several Bhumihar-dominated constituencies.
Jagdish Sharma, a powerful leader in the Magadh region, is known for his strong network among the Bhumihar community. His son’s move to the RJD is seen as a major blow to Nitish Kumar’s JDU, especially in Bihar.
