Tejashwi Yadav and opposition leaders protested on 65% reservation and other issues in the Bihar assembly.
Patna November 26, 2024: The second day of the Bihar Legislative Assembly’s winter session saw heated protests led by Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Yadav.
Accompanied by opposition MLAs, Yadav raised issues including the demand for 65% reservation for OBCs, EBCs, SCs, and STs.
Holding a poster with the slogan “65% reservation will have to be given,” Yadav criticized the BJP and NDA government for failing to support inclusive policies.
Tejashwi Yadav and opposition leaders also protested on other issues:
The opposition also questioned the government’s handling of issues like smart meters and Adani apart from ongoing constitutional reviews.
The demand for 65% reservation stems from the caste survey conducted during the Grand Alliance Government, which served as the basis for implementing the policy. However, the decision was invalidated by the Patna High Court, a ruling later upheld by the Supreme Court. This remains a focal point of the opposition’s criticism.
JD(U) MLC Neeraj Kumar criticized Tejashwi Yadav:
Adding to the political confrontation, JD(U) MLC Neeraj Kumar sharply criticized Tejashwi Yadav, suggesting he should demand his father, Lalu Prasad Yadav, resign as the RJD’s national president.
Citing Lalu’s conviction by the judiciary, Kumar stated, “It would be a landmark decision for the RJD to demonstrate respect for the Constitution by removing Lalu Prasad Yadav.”
He further claimed that Lalu Prasad Yadav and Tejashwi Yadav have lost their influence, pointing to the RJD’s losses in the Belaganj and Ramgarh by-elections as evidence of their declining voter base.
This exchange reflects the intensifying political dynamic in Bihar, with the opposition attacking the NDA on governance issues and the ruling coalition targeting the RJD’s leadership and credibility.
The statement reflects JD(U)’s strategy to question the moral and political standing of RJD leadership while aiming to create a narrative about its adherence to constitutional values. This back-and-forth adds to the ongoing friction between Bihar’s political alliances as they gear up for future electoral battles.
