Patna, July 17, 2025: With the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter lists underway in Bihar, Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Yadav launched a sharp attack on the Election Commission of India (ECI) on Thursday, alleging that the Commission is acting under the directives of the BJP.
“We are convinced that the Election Commission is working at the behest of the BJP,” Tejashwi Yadav said, expressing concern over the ongoing revision process ahead of the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections.
He pointed out that despite repeated meetings with the Election Commission in Delhi and Patna, including with Bihar Chief Electoral Officer Gyanesh Kumar, there has been no official response from the Commission on the concerns raised by the opposition.
“This is the biggest drive of the Commission where new names are added, but the Commission has not even once invited political parties to discuss the process. We suspect something is fishy,” Tejashwi added.
Tejashwi Yadav expressed concerns over voter list deletions:
He claimed that 35 lakh names have been deleted from the voter list, referencing a report in a daily newspaper that the Commission later confirmed via a press release.
“This Commission is removing people’s names without transparency. If a name is deleted, the Commission should upload all the details and inform us. It is the people’s right to know why their names are being removed,” he said.

He alleged that in many places, Booth Level Officers (BLOs) have not visited but are signing forms themselves, and claimed that in Darbhanga, forms are being filled in the presence of BJP leaders, presenting a video as evidence of the alleged malpractice.
Accusations of undermining democracy:
Tejashwi Yadav said the opposition’s objection is not to the SIR itself but to the way it is being conducted.
“Now democracy is being destroyed. The Commission is snatching away people’s rights and working on the instructions of Amit Shah and Narendra Modi,” he alleged.

He warned that deletion of names from the voter list could result in the affected people losing access to ration, pensions, and various government welfare schemes, effectively erasing their existence from the system.
India Alliance will raise the issue nationally:
Tejashwi Yadav stated that the RJD will raise this issue on all platforms, including the upcoming India alliance meeting in Delhi at Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge’s residence, and will also write letters to all parties across the country to highlight the alleged irregularities in the voter revision process in Bihar.
