Patna, August 1, 2025: A large number of students marched on the streets of Patna on Friday demanding 90% domicile reservation in all government jobs and immediate release of the fourth phase teacher recruitment notification in Bihar.

The protest, led by student leader Dilip Kumar, began at Patna College and proceeded through Musallahpur Haat towards the Chief Minister’s residence.

This marks the third major protest in two months over similar demands, signaling growing discontent among youth and teaching aspirants.

Protesters warned that if their demands are not met, they will launch a campaign against Chief Minister Nitish Kumar in the upcoming 2025 Bihar Assembly elections.

Students demanded 90% domicile reservation:

The protesting students were demanding 90% reservation for Bihar domicile in all state government jobs.

They also demanded an immediate release of the 4th phase teacher recruitment notification and a 100-mark paper or section in competitive exams focused on Bihar-specific knowledge, apart from the enforcement of the existing 35% women’s reservation for Bihar-native women only.

Lakhs of students want locals to get priority in jobs. If our demands are met, we’ll campaign for Nitish Kumar. If not, we’ll campaign against him,” said Dilip Kumar, student leader.

“We want 905 domicile reservations in all jobs and immediate notification of teacher recruitment. We are marching to the CM’s residence with this demand,” said Sonam Kumari, a student.

Security measures and political implications:

In anticipation of the protest over domicile reservation, the administration deployed a heavy police force and riot control vehicles at JP Golambar and near CM House to prevent any law-and-order disturbance.

With assembly elections only months away, the pressure on the Bihar government is mounting.

Students have made it clear that their support in the elections hinges on policy changes, especially on domicile reservation and recruitment timelines.
