Speculation grows over Nishant Kumar’s entry into politics before the 2025 crucial Bihar assembly poll.

Patna January 27, 2025: Former MP Anand Mohan has expressed his support for Nishant Kumar, the son of Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, entering politics.

“If Nishant Kumar wants to come into politics, I would welcome him. The leader of a new generation should step forward. It is a healthy sign,” Anand Mohan said.

Nishant Kumar earlier appealed for his father Nitish Kumar:

Speculation about Nishant Kumar’s political debut reignited on January 8 when he visited his ancestral home in Bakhtiyarpur with his father. During a program to garland the statue of Nitish Kumar’s late father and other freedom fighters, Nishant appealed to the people to vote for his father and his party, JDU. He stated that the people of Bihar should re-elect Nitish Kumar as Chief Minister.

Despite Nitish Kumar’s long-standing opposition to dynastic politics, many JDU leaders are indicating a possible shift in the party’s stance. Nitish Kumar, who has openly criticized parties like RJD and LJP for prioritizing family over merit, has always maintained that his family is the entire state of Bihar. However, senior JDU leaders have recently adopted a conspicuous silence on Nishant’s entry into politics, sparking speculation about a change in strategy.

JDU leaders are optimistic about Nishant Kumar’s entry into politics:

When asked about Nishant’s potential debut, a senior leader of JDU responded, “Absolutely, such sensible youth with progressive thinking should come into politics. But a decision will be taken at the right time.” While no official statement has been issued by JDU, support for Nishant’s entry seems to be growing within the party.

He was speaking off the record, noting that Nishant Kumar would be the natural successor to Nitish Kumar. Drawing comparisons to other political families, the leader highlighted that Lalu Prasad Yadav had declared his son Tejashwi Yadav as his successor in 2014, while Ram Vilas Paswan groomed his son Chirag Paswan, whose leadership brought LJP closer to the NDA in 2014. Both leader’s decisions significantly influenced their parties’ trajectories.

The possibility of Nishant Kumar entering politics has been a topic of discussion for years, with some JDU workers initially demanding that he be named Nitish Kumar’s heir. While Nitish and his close aides had previously rejected this demand, the evolving narrative suggests a potential shift in the party’s thinking.

If Nishant steps into politics, it could mark a significant development in Bihar’s political landscape, positioning him as a natural successor to his father and a key player in the future of JDU.
