Shyam Rajak resigned from RJD.

Patna, August 22: Shyam Rajak, the former cabinet minister of the Bihar government, resigned from the post of the national general secretary and the primary membership of Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) on Thursday.

Shyam Rajak submitted his resignation in a letter addressed to RJD national president Lalu Prasad Yadav marking the end of his four-year association with the party. Shyam Rajak joined the RJD just before the 2020 assembly election, after leaving the Janata Dal (United).

There had been speculation for some time that he was considering leaving the RJD and his resignation confirms these rumors.

Shyam Rajak’s political journey has been a complex one, marked by shifting allegiances. He initially started his career with Lalu Prasad Yadav in RJD but later switched to the JD (U). After some time, he returned to the RJD, only to resign once again. His resignation this time comes with a poetic critique of his experience within the party.

Shyam Rajak, through his resignation letter, expressed his feelings of being sidelined and deceived, especially after leaving JD (U) as a minister to rejoin the RJD. Despite his return, he was not given a ticket by RJD for the assembly election 2020 and Lok  Sabha election 2024. Even, he was not given a key position within the party.

The Shayari included in his resignation—“I was not fond of chess, that is why I got cheated. You were moving the pieces, I was maintaining the relationship…”—this aptly captures his feeling of betrayal. It reflects his belief that while he was focused on maintaining his relationship with the party, others were engaged in strategic maneuvering that ultimately left him out in the cold.
