Patna, April 22, 2024: After Prime Minister Narendra Modi reignited a political storm by citing an 18-year-old statement of former PM Dr. Manmohan Singh, Rohini Acharya, the RJD candidate from Saran, launched a sharp counterattack on the BJP and RSS, accusing them of hypocrisy and divisive politics.
Rohini Acharya claimed BJP leaders touched a new low in politics:
“The level of politics is declining in the country. They (the BJP leader) can say anything. They have been targeting Muslims right from the beginning. For us, all people are equal,” Rohini said during a campaign interaction.
“The people of the Muslim community fought alongside us during the freedom struggle. These people (BJP and RSS leaders) themselves were slaves of the British and now claim to be patriots. Who are they to give certificates of patriotism?” she asked.
PM Modi, while addressing in Banaswara, Rajasthan, had referred to a past statement of Dr. Manmohan Singh, alleging that the former Congress government once suggested snatching assets from Hindus and distributing them among Muslims.
Rohini Acharya defended RJD:
The BJP has also questioned the RJD’s election manifesto, pointing out that despite having no MP in the current Lok Sabha, the party is promising large-scale job creation.
Defending RJD’s record, Rohini Acharya hit back at the BJP.
“They should be ashamed that a leader of a regional party delivered five lakh government jobs in just 17 months, while they have failed to fulfil even a single promise they made.”
The war of words adds fresh intensity to the campaign trail in Bihar as parties trade accusations over religious politics, economic policies and job creation ahead of the upcoming elections.
