Patna, June 10, 2024: The Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) on Monday sharply criticized the Narendra Modi government for what it called the “complete exclusion” of the Muslim community from the newly formed Union cabinet.
RJD criticized the Narendra Modi government:
RJD senior leader and spokesperson Ejaz Ahmad said that although 71 ministers have taken oath in the Modi government’s third term, not a single Muslim MP has been included. He claimed this reflects the BJP-led NDA’s “anti-Muslim mindset” and contradicts the alliance’s slogan of “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas.”
“This exposes BJP’s anti-Muslim face,” Ahmed said. Muslims constitute about 18% of the country’s population, yet they have been completely ignored. If the NDA wanted, it could have made someone from the Rajya Sabha a minister. Instead, they made Ravneet Singh Bittu, who lost the election in Punjab, a minister solely to represent the state. BJP even has Rajya Sabha MPs from Jammu & Kashmir who could have been included,” he added.
The RJD is intensifying its attack on the BJP and the JDU:
The issue has triggered fresh political debate in Bihar, with the RJD intensifying its attack on both the BJP and the JDU. Ahmed alleged that the JDU, despite repeatedly claiming to work for the welfare of Muslims, has also exposed its “real face” by remaining silent on the matter.
RJD leaders also pointed out that in 2014 and 2019, the Modi government had included Muslim ministers such as Najma Heptulla and Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi, who served in various capacities, including Minority Affairs and Parliamentary Affairs.
“This time, the complete absence of Muslim representation is deliberate and discriminatory,” Ahmed alleged.
