RCP Singh likely join Prashant Kishor’s Jan Suraj Party ahead of Bihar poll 2025.

Patna, May 17, 2025: In a surprising yet strategic political development, former Union Minister RCP Singh is most likely to join Prashant Kishor’s Jan Suraj Party on May 18, signaling another major turn in his political journey.

This marks RCP Singh’s fourth Party switch in the last two years after having faded from Bihar’s active political landscape.

Singh, who was once a close confidant of Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, had most recently been heading a small regional party named “Aap Sabki Awaz”(ASA).

However, the party failed to gain any political traction or public interest.

RCP Singh expected inclusion confirmation from Jan Suraj Party:

While Jan Suraj Party initially kept the leader’s identity under wraps, sources confirmed that RCP Singh is the key NDA-linked figure slated to join the party in a formal event on May 18 at 10 AM.

The occasion is also expected to witness the merger of the ASA Party into Jan Suraj, solidifying Kishor’s growing base ahead of the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections.

RCP Singh’s political career began in 2010 when he took voluntary retirement from the IAS and joined politics under Nitish Kumar’s mentorship.

Initially, he rose rapidly within Janata  Dal (United) becoming a Rajya Sabha MP and later serving as the National President of JDU.

However, Singh’s political fortunes began to decline in 2021, when he was inducted into the Narendra  Modi cabinet as a Union Minister from the JDU quota.

His ministerial entry, allegedly without Nitish Kumar’s full consent, sparked an internal rebellion, particularly from JDU leader Rajiv Ranjan Singh alias Lalan Singh, leading to Singh’s marginalization within the party.

After JDU denied him a Rajya Sabha re-nomination in 2022, Singh was forced to resign from the Union Cabinet.

He later joined the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) in Mat 2023, hoping for a fresh start and a ticket for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

However, Nitish Kumar’s unexpected return to the NDA ahead of the elections undermined Singh’s position once again, and he was overlooked by the BJP.

Failed gamble with ASA party:

With no political space in either JDU or BJP, RCP Singh announced the formation of his own party ASA on October 31, 2024. But the party failed to resonate with voters or make any impact on the ground.

His absence from political discourse over the past few months further reflected his growing isolation.

By aligning with Prashant Kishor’s Jan Suraj, known for its grassroots-focused movement and anti-establishment image, can accommodate and rehabilitate a seasoned but sidelined politician like Singh.

Prashant Kishor’s strategy of on boarding experienced political figures, even those with checkered recent histories, signals his intent to broaden the party’s appeal and strengthen organizational depth.

 A waiting May 18:

The formal induction and party merger event on May 18 will be closely watched in Bihar’s political circles. As RCP Singh prepares to begin another chapter in his political journey, all eyes will be on whether this alliance can deliver electoral dividends or simply add to his list of misfires.
