Patna June 13: Newly elected MP of Purnea Rajesh Ranjan alias Pappu Yadav got a huge relief on Thursday after the district court granted bail in an alleged extortion case on Thursday evening.

Pappu Yadav along with his close aide Amit Yadav were booked under the 385, 504, 506 and 34 of IPC sections. An FIR was lodged in the district’s Mufassil police station on June 10 and the complainant had leveled an allegation of demanding Rs 1 crore as an extortion.

In this case, Pappu Yadav appeared in the district court Purnea on Thursday, where the court granted him bail on two personnel bonds of Rs 10 thousand each.

“It is a win of truth. The phone number used in the extortion was not registered in my name. The person who dragged my name in this case and tried to malign my image would face a defamation suit. I will file the defamation case against that person in the Supreme Court,” Pappu Yadav said after coming out of the court.

A furniture businessman named Raja Bhagat had leveled an allegation against Pappu Yadav and Amit Yadav for demanding extortion of one crore. Bhagat also accused them of demanding extortion since 2021.

The complainant claimed that after winning the election, Pappu Yadav and Amit Yadav allegedly said that if you do not pay one crore rupees, you will have to leave Purnea.

The Purnea police registered an FIR against Pappu Yadav and his aide Amit Yadav at Mufassil police station on June 10. The Purnea SP formed a team for the investigation into the entire matter.
