Newly elected MP Pappu Yadav and his aide booked for extortion

Patna June 11: A furniture trader leveled extortion charges on newly elected MP from Purnea Rajesh Ranjan alias Pappu Yadav and his aide Amit Yadav on Monday.

According to an official spokesperson of Purnea police, an FIR (Number 93/2024) has been registered against Rajesh Ranjan alias Pappu Yadav and his aide Amit Yadav at Mufassil police station on Monday.

They have been booked under IPC sections  385/504/506/34. The police have started investigating the matter. There has been no response from MP Pappu Yadav on this entire matter yet. As per the FIR, the furniture businessman has said: “On June 4, 2024, Amit Yadav allegedly threatened him on his mobile. Amit Yadav, in his threatening call, demanded Rs 1 crore extortion from me. He also said that if I have to stay here in Purnea for the next five years, I have to pay him Rs 1 crore or leave the district. He threatened me with dire consequences.”

The complainant claimed that the first extortion call was received on April 2, 2021. Rajesh Ranjan alias Pappu Yadav had demanded an extortion of Rs 10 lakh. Apart from this, it has also been alleged that during Durga Puja in 2023, threatened and abused on mobile and WhatsApp calls. At that time, he had demanded Rs 15 lakh and two sofa sets.

The complainant also mentioned in the FIR and said that during the Lok Sabha elections, Amit Yadav, the close aide of MP Rajesh Ranjan alias Pappu Yadav, had called him. He made 10 to 15 calls on April 5, 2024, and asked him to reach Arjun Bhawan, the residence of Pappu Yadav. He also demanded Rs 25 lakh extortion.
