Patna, September 26, 2025: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday virtually launched the Mukhyamantri Mahila Rojgar Yojana, transferring Rs 10,000 each to 75 lakh women across Bihar, amounting to a total first-phase disbursal of Rs 7,500 crore.

The launch event connected PM Narendra Modi from New Delhi with Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Deputy Chief Ministers Samrat Choudhary and Vijay Kumar Sinha and senior officials in Patna.

The scheme, originally announced by CM Nitish Kumar, aimed to make women Atmnirbhar (Self-Reliant) by promoting self-employment and livelihood opportunities.

Beneficiaries who successfully expand their ventures will be eligible for additional support of up to Rs 2 lakh in later phases.

Samrat Choudhary revealed that over 3.06 crore applications were received, out of which 75 lakh women were selected.

CM Nitish Kumar appreciated PM Narendra Modi:

CM Nitish Kumar praised the Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s participation and recounted his government’s record of women empowerment, including 50% reservation in Panchaiti Raj institutions and formation of over 11 lakh Self-Help-Groups, where over one crore Jivika Didis are being associated in them.

Nitish Kumar also contrasted Bihar’s development under the NDA with the lack of progress during the Lalu-Rabri era from before 2005.

While making a veiled attack on RJD Chief Lalu Prasad Yadav, over dynastic politics, Kumar said that when he was removed from the post of Chief Minister after seven years, he brought his wife to the Chief Minister’s chair.

Jan Dhan Account, a game-changer initiative:

Addressing the beneficiaries, PM Narendra Modi credited the success of the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system to initiatives like Jan Dhan Yojana, launched 11 years ago, which enabled the opening of over 30 crore bank accounts.

“Earlier, a former prime minister said that if the Centre sent Rs 100, only Rs 15 reached the people. Today, every rupee is reaching the intended beneficiaries, PM Modi said.

During the event, PM Narendra Modi interacted with four women beneficiaries of West Champaran, Bhojpur, Gaya and Purnea who shared how the financial aid would help them start small businesses and improve their livelihood.

Political observers note that the scheme’s rollout just weeks before the Bihar Assembly elections is expected to bolster the NDA’s outreach among women voters, a crucial segment in the upcoming polls.
