Polling for the first phase of the assembly election begins in Bihar’s 18 districts.

Patna, November 6, 2025: Polling for the first phase of the Bihar Assembly elections began on Thursday at 7 am across 18 districts.

Voting is being held in 121 constituencies where 1314 candidates, including 1192 male and 122 female candidates, are in the fray.

According to the poll body, 3,75,13,302 electors, including 1,98,35,325 male, 1,76,77,219 female and 758 third-gender voters, will decide their fate.

More than one dozen prominent leaders are contesting in the first phase, including Tejashwi Yadav in Raghopur, his brother Tej Pratap Yadav in Mahua, Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary in Tarapur, Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Sinha in Lakhisarai, and Nitin Navin in Bakipur.  

A total of 45,341 polling stations have been set up across the state, including 36,733 in rural areas and 8608 in urban areas.

Polling will end at 6 pm:

Polling will continue till 6 pm in general booths, while in six Naxal-affected constituencies, voting will end at 5 pm.

A mock poll was conducted from 5 am to 7 am in the presence of booth-level agents before voting commenced.

Polling is underway in Khagaria, Munger, Lakhisarai, Nalanda, Patna, Sheikhpura, Saharsa, Madhepura, Bhojpur, Darbhanga, Muzaffarpur, Gopalganj, Siwan, Saran, Vaishali, Begusarai, Buxar and Samastipur.

Security tightened for the first phase:  

The first phase of voting is being conducted under unprecedented security arrangements.

Police and paramilitary forces have been deployed across all 18 districts.

Special patrolling teams are active at sensitive and hyper-sensitive booths.

The Patna district administration said security personnel have been posted at every booth to prevent any disruption or spread of rumours.

Patna district has 5,677 polling stations, including 541 women-managed, 49 model polling stations, 14 PwD-managed and 3 youth-managed stations.

In Muzaffarpur, voting is underway at 4,186 polling stations for 11 Assembly constituencies, where approximately 32.98 lakh voters are eligible.

In Lakhisarai, sector officers collected EVMs and documents from Gandhi Maidan on Wednesday.

Several booths fall in Naxal-affected zones, voting there will conclude at 5 pm.

More than 15 battalions of security forces have been deployed for the first phase.

In Samastipur, voting began at 7 am across 3,603 polling stations for 10 constituencies, where 29,32,602 voters will cast their votes.
