Political storm over Rahul Gandhi’s visit to Ambedkar hostel Darbhanga, 2 FIRs lodged.

Patna, Mat 15, 2025: Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha and senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s one-day visit to Bihar sparked political controversy and administrative action after he held a program in Darbhanga’s Ambedkar Welfare Hostel without official permission.
The event, part of the NSUI’s “Shiksha Nyay Samvad”, drew the ire of local authorities and ruling NDA leaders alike.
Rahul Gandhi reached the hostel on foot, defying a prohibitory order under Section 163 of the BNS (Formally CrPC Section 144), to interact with Dalit students.
He addressed the gathering for about 15 minutes, criticizing the double-engine NDA government for allegedly suppressing the voices of Dalit and backward students.
Despite the district administration’s denial of permission for the event at the hostel and its suggestion to shift the venue to the Town Hall, Congress leaders proceeded with the original plan.
FIRs lodged against Rahul Gandhi and others:
This led to two FIRs being filed at Laheriasarai Police station.
The first FIR was registered on the complaint of Duty Magistrate Khurshid Alam, pertains to violation of prohibitory orders under BSN Section 163 and the second FIR, lodged by District Welfare Officer Alok Kumar, accuses Rahul Gandhi and others of illegally organizing a political event in a government-run hostel without prior permission.

In total, FIRs have been registered against Rahul Gandhi, 20 named Congress leaders, and 100 unidentified persons.
The matter has been confirmed by SDPO Amit Kumar and SDM Vikas Kumar.
NDA leaders criticized Rahul Gandhi:
Rahul Gandhi’s visit has triggered a wave of criticism from the ruling NDA leaders.
Sanjay Jha, JDU’s national working president, questioned the use of hostels for political programs and called Gandhi’s visit a mere political stunt.
The administration had offered Town Hall as an alternative venue but he is just doing politics ahead of the election. Are political programs held in hostels? Has this happened anywhere? Congress is crying foul for political mileage,” Jha said.
Bihar Social Welfare Minister Madan Sahani went a step further, mocking Rahul Gandhi’s visit.
“Now that Rahul Gandhi has come to watch the movie, let him pass the time and leave after that. The Congress and the Mahagathbandhan are going to be wiped out. In 2010, they got 22 seats. This time, they won’t even get that,” Sahani said. Sahani also questioned Rahul Gandhi’s planning and preparation: “When he has no plan for himself, what plan will he make for the public? Is Ambedkar Hostel a hub of politics now?” he asked.
Meanwhile, Congress leaders and supporters defended the visit, with Gandhi emphasizing that the voice of the marginalized cannot be licenced by police action or administrative pressure.
Rahul Gandhi left Bihar after a 7-hour visit, during which he also visited Patna to watch the film Phule, based on the life of social reformer Jyotiba Phule.
