PM Narendra Modi will inaugurate the Aunta Ghat-Simaria 6-lane Ganga bridge during his Gaya visit.

Patna, August 19, 2025: Bihar is set to get a major infrastructure boost as Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate a newly constructed Aunta Ghat-Simaria six-lane Ganga bridge during his visit to Gaya on August 22.

The bridge, built by the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) in collaboration with the Bihar government, will provide seamless connectivity between Patna and Begusarai districts.

PM Narendra Modi laid the foundation of this bridge in 2017:

The foundation stone for the project was laid by PM Narendra Modi on October 14, 2017.

Constructed by Welspun Enterprises, a leading infrastructure company, the 1.865 km long bridge with an 8.15 km approach road has been completed at the cost of Rs 1,871 crore.

It will ensure smooth four-lane connectivity on the Patna—Bakhtiyarpur—Mokama—Begusarai—Khagaria route.

The bridge is expected to be a game-changer for trade, transport and economic growth in the region by easing heavy vehicle movement and providing crucial relief for northeast-bound traffic.

The old bridge has a lesser capacity:

For years, commuters and transporters have faced severe traffic congestion and delays, with the existing Rajendra Setu bridge struggling to meet rising demand.

The old bridge, capable of handling only 20 metric tons of vehicular load, has become a major bottleneck, particularly during peak hours. The absence of modern infrastructure has further constrained the region’s logistics and connectivity.

Officials say the new six-lane bridge is not just an engineering marvel but also a symbol of Bihar’s progress towards modern infrastructure.

Earlier, PM Narendra Modi inaugurated Rs 7200 crore projects during the Motihari rally on July 18.
