Patna, September 30, 2025: Bhojpuri power star Pawan Singh on Tuesday met Rajya Sabha MP and Rashtriya Lok Morcha chief Upendra Kushwaha in Delhi.
During the meeting, Kishwaha not only welcomed Pawan Singh but also blessed him, signalling a crucial reconciliation after months of tension between the two leaders.
The meeting is being seen as a major relief for the BJP, which is hoping to consolidate support among both the Rajput and Kushwaha communities, two influential vote banks in Bihar.
BJP Bihar In-charge Vinod Tavre confirmed Singh’s association with the party, stating, “Pawan Singh is in the BJP and will remain so. Upendra Kushwaha has blessed him. He will work actively for the NDA in the upcoming elections.”
Senior BJP leader Rituraj Sinha was also present during the meeting.
According to party insiders, Pawan Singh is set to formally join the BJP on October 5, with the party betting on his massive popularity in Bhojpuri-speaking regions to boost its prospects in the upcoming polls.
Background of the rift between Pawan Singh and NDA:
The rapprochement is significant because Upendra Kushwaha suffered defeat in the Karakat Lok Sabha seat earlier this year, a loss many within the NDA blamed on Pawan Singh.
Initially, the BJP had fielded Singh from Asansol in West Bengal, but he backed out after widespread protests over his controversial songs.
Subsequently, Pawan Singh contested Karakat as an independent, splitting the upper-caste (especially Rajput) vote and denting Kushwaha’s chances despite him being the official NDA candidate.
The fallout not only cost Kushwaha the seat but also reportedly contributed to the NDA’s defeat in key constituencies such as Patliputra, Buxar, Aurangabad, Sasaram (SC), Ara, Jehanabad and Karakat in Shahabad and Magadh regions.
Political implications:
The BJP hopes that the new alliance between Pawan Singh and Upendra Kushwaha will prevent a repeat of the Lok Sabha scenario by appeasing both Rajput and Kushwaha voters, strengthening the NDA’s caste arithmetic in the state.
With Singh’s formal induction into the BJP just days away, political observers say the party has found a way to convert a former spoiler into a crowd-pulling asset for the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections.
