Patna, September 1, 2025: The Nitish Kumar government has signed an agreement with ITC Hotels Limited to build a grand 5-star hotel in Patna.
Tourism secretary Lokesh Kumar Singh announced that the new luxury hotel will come up at the site of the former Patliputra Ashoka Hotel, located at Income Tax Golambar—a prime location considered the heart of Patna.
Where Patliputra Ashoka once stood, a magnificent 5-star hotel of the ITC group will soon take shape. This is a matter of pride for Patna, as it will not only provide modern hospitality facilities but also enhance tourism and benefit local residents,” Singh said.
5-star hotel at the centre of the city:
The proposed site enjoys proximity to several key landmarks, including Dak Bungalow Square, the chief secretariat, Patna Junction, Patna Airport, Gandhi Maidan and Marine Drive.
The earlier Patliputra Ashoka Hotel, once a major landmark, had been shut down before the COVID-19 pandemic.
During the pandemic, the premises were repurposed as a vaccination centre.
More 5-star hotels planned:
Singh further revealed that the government is working on plans for two additional 5-star hotels in Patna.
For this, land parcels at Gandhi Maidan old bus stand and Sultan Palace near R-block intersection have been identified, and leading hotel chains are being invited to participate.
He also pointed out that while discussions about developing world-class hotels in Patna have been ongoing for nearly two decades, concrete progress is finally being seen thanks to sustained efforts by the tourism department to attract reputed hospitality groups.
Boost to tourism and economy:
The tourism department emphasized that the entry of ITC hotels into Patna marks a significant milestone.
This agreement is a big step towards modernization and development of Patna’s hospitality sector. It will provide a new impetus to tourism and economic growth in Bihar,” Singh added.
