Patna police seized out of circulation currency notes in a tune of 9.74 lakh, and14 detained.

Patna, April 4, 2024: The Patna police detained 14 persons and seized Rs 974 lakh in out-of-circulation Rs 2000 denomination notes on Thursday.
Patna police SP (West) Abhinav Dhiman confirmed the development and said an FIR has been lodged at Rupaspur police station.
“We received information from Army Intelligence, Lucknow, about some people gathered in flat number 208 of Heritage Apartment near Patliputra railway station. A raid was conducted there, leading to the seizure of the money and detention of 14 persons,” Dhiman said.
He added that the detainees were allegedly trying to exchange the out-of-circulation notes.
Patna police also seized 14 mobile phones:
“The interrogation of the detained persons is underway. We also seized 14 mobile phones from them, and preliminary scanning has revealed photographs of Rs 2000 notes being sent to contacts in other states. Our team is tracing those links to identify and arrest the kingpin,” he said.
Police also seized three cars and one motorcycle from the accused.
The Rs 2000 currency note was introduced after demonetization:
The Rs 2000 currency note, introduced after the 2016 demonetization of Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes, was withdrawn from circulation by the Reserve Bank of India in May 2023.
