Patna Metro’s first trial run successfully completed a historic moment for Bihar.

Patna, September 3, 2025: The long wait of Patna residents finally came to an end on Wednesday as the first trial run of the Patna Metro was successfully conducted, marking a historic step in Bihar’s journey towards modern urban transport.

In the initial phase, a three-coach metro train was run on an 800-meter-long track inside the depot, where all technical and safety parameters were checked thoroughly.

Officials said the trial was aimed at testing the speed, braking system, power supply, and safety equipment of the train.

A team of experts from the Patna Metro Rail Corporation Limited (PMRCL) and Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) supervised the process to ensure compliance with safety standards.

Next phase of trial from ISBT to Bhoothnath:

After the successful depot trial, the Patna metro will soon undergo a full-scale trial on undergo a full-scale trial on the nearly 6 km-long priority corridor stretching from Patliputra Inter-State Bus Terminal (ISBT) to Bhoothnath station, covering Malahi Pakadi, Zero Mile and Khemnichak stations.

This trial will continue for a week, during which engineers will closely monitor every system and make adjustments if required.

The three-coach metro set has a total passenger capacity of 300 passengers.

In a unique initiative, the bogies have been designed to reflect the rich cultural heritage of Bihar, adorned with Madhubani paintings and illustrations of iconic landmarks such as Golghar, Mahavir Mandir, Nalanda ruins, Buddha Stupa, and Mahabodhi Temple.

Bihar’s Tourism Minister Jivesh Mishra, who visited the site to witness the trial, hailed it as a historic achievement for Patna.

“The project would not only ease transportation in the capital but also become a milestone in the state’s development journey,” Mishra said.

Officials indicated that once the trials are completed the Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to inaugurate the project.

The Patna Metro project, a flagship infrastructure initiative, is being seen as a game-changer in urban mobility, providing a sustainable, eco-friendly, and zero-carbon emission mode of public transport for the city.
